Viki, this makes my day because I almost added a specific request for someone to please say Adventures in Babysitting. I watched this a truly embarrassing number of times in my youth.
I have watched this COUNTLESS times. Like, daily for a good long stretch of middle school years. Have your kids watched it? I kinda want to show them but then I can’t decide if it is Appropriate for Children
This made my week. I too watched it countless times and am currently singing "and then he kissed me" in my head and will probably make my kids listen to it when I pick them up from school today. Thank you for your words! Praying always.
Princess Bride forever! But also, I have a football-stadium-size need to hear your women’s health soapbox rant - I am 100% here for it whenever you are ready to scream-cry that with your fellow female tortured poets. Sending prayers for continued healing - and for your kids and Franco!
Just FYI the numbering of this list corresponds to the footnote I am replying to, so I didn't skip numbers, I just didn't have a response to every footnote.
1. When you're done on your soapbox I will tag in and spout about how when I used to commute from St. Paul to Minneapolis via I-94 for work I would pass within a mile of two (which eventually became three) PUBLICLY FUNDED SPORTS STADIUMS. Thanks, I hate it!!
3. Oh Purdue, how about you Pur-don't. (This is a long running terrible pun in my family of Midwesterners where, if you include my husband, we have alumni from half the Big 10 schools [back when it used to actually have 10 schools in it!!] and we ALL make jokes about Purdue! It unites us!)
7. I lived a sheltered childhood and didn't watch a lot of '80's movies of any genre (I saw Indiana Jones, Top Gun, Ferris Bueller, and Back to the Future all in college in the aughts which is . . . a bit late to the cultural game) but does The Blues Brothers count as an action-adventure '80s movie? If so that's my vote. My husband and I dressed our 2 year old twin boys as Jake and Elwood for their first trick-or-treat, he was Blue Lou, and I was the Penguin. A parenting highlight FOR SURE.
Also FFW always sounds amazing but wow, Anthony Doerr and Tracy K. Smith in the same venue is mind-boggling. So glad you've had some joy in these past months, wishing you lots more in the months to come. Praying for you always!
Boo for living in interesting times. Yay for naps. Funny self-reflection. Grateful for the wisdom and science you are using to guide your journey, and for DQ when celebrations are in order. Much love, and many prayers, always.
My breath caught when I read the Camino 2026 mention! I will start saving my pennies. I also travelled for the eclipse this year, but I was wrangling my 5, 2.5 and 1 yo… Memorable, wouldn’t trade it for anything, and I don’t really feel like I can say I fully experienced totality.
Does "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" count? hahaha... probably not.
Regarding your note on women's health being a specialty subset: have you ever read Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez? While it mentions abortion (though much less than I expected) and gets itself tied into a few knots regarding that, it was definitely still a worthwhile read. It opened my eyes to just how many studies and safety regulations have been based on men (shocker: almost all of them). I'm sure you would have many amazing, hilarious comments on it. :)
Wow that Camino is going to be crowded, get ready all of the hostels! Thanks for bringing the real-real and please know of my prayers for you and yours.
"Revolution of Blood" makes this non-writer actually try writing... What a fantastic title! And if you're making a list for the Camino, put me on it! (Also not kidding) Went to Spain last year, and going back is all I think about some days. Now I'll add prayers for you when Spanish breezes invade my mind.☺️❤️
That barium drink….one of my least favorite sensory experiences ever. Praying for continuing no cancer news AND for answers about your bloodwork mysteries.
Loved Adventures in Babysitting!

I was literally about to say Adventures in Babysitting! That movie has it all.

The footnotes in this one really were *chefs kiss* And Blues Brothers was top of my mind, too!
DQ: savior of late night panic attacks over health issues!

No movies to mention, just continuing prayers and love. 🩷

Keeping you in prayer all this time, with great hope.
You make the fear I know well sound fairly hilarious. Thank you for making me laugh through my tears.

Original Star Wars trilogy, always and forever. And maybe once you get past swoony hockey hair length you can go for crazy Doc hair?! Just a thought.
Celebrating this good news with you for now, and hoping with you that the tentative nature of it solidifies!
💛
Romancing the Stone. Neutral city. Am praying. I adore you more each month.
