This was utterly beautifully done. At first I was like, “Oh, Laura’s so clever” and by the end I had tears streaming. God bless you, Merry Christmas, and prayers for continued healing. Sending extra love today!

What an amazing post - your brain is back to firing on all cylinders for sure! Loved the humor and it reminded me of things I had completely forgotten about from my own experience. (But my experience included an overnight stay, surgeon removed the drains and told me she didn't think compression bras were necessary - so apparently, I got the premium upgrade gratis?)

It’s really good to hear your voice here again. May the healing continue (speedily!!). My prayers definitely will. Have a wonderful Christmas.

This was wonderfully hilarious. My Irish humor tips its hat to yours.

When my SIL got her permanent replacements after her double masectomy, she would comment, "They're fake, and they're fabulous!"

The DM 10 years ago was an inpatient surgery, and she was there several days. Her hysterectomy (unrelated to cancer)? Outpatient. It's galling that these major procedures have been downgraded.

OMG. This brand of particularly deranged dark humor! I’m here.for.it. And praying for pain relief, recovery and so many delicious cookies with your family.

i have followed your story and prayed for you throughout this. I have questioned God about why this and why you? I have no answers. It made me sad and angry. I realized that God was also sad and angry about this as you are his beloved daughter. This sadness has been replaced by your updates. I have gratitude that you are now on the other side of this horrific journey. I do know that fear comes in all shapes and sizes. It is ugly and unflattering and doesn't compliment anyone -not even and most especially their eyes yet you faced fear so graciously! The challenge of fear that you had to keep overcoming was enormous and yet your response of faith so remarkable! Thank you for being humble and vulnerable enough to let your readers into that space. In doing so you modeled for us and inspired us how to do the same. For whatever it's worth I think that you are more than a girl boss warrior- which you are all that but in all capital letters! You are also WONDER WOMAN! Your Super Power is your ability to hang onto your faith despite your every day horrors of discomfort, pain and anxiety through this whole ordeal combined with the power to put faith and theology of the every day pain and suffering into beautiful and at times comedic words. You are the STRONGEST, BRAVEST most COURAGEOUS person! You are an Angel of Mercy to share with us the intimate details that you and your husband so beautfully and eloquently wrote. You are a Master theology teacher in creating holiness from your situation and putting it into words that speak, teach and touch us. Thank you for taking us along on this ride that I am so sorry you had to experience. For me knowing that you are on your way to healing, have such a great prognosis and have all the love and support of your amazing friends and family is the Christmas hope and joy that the birth of Jesus is all about. Thank you ! Sending love and light to you and your beautiful family. May God continue to bless you. Merry Christmas!
